It runs in the family!

Here we are three generations of dirt digging, seed growing; flower planting, garden loving Kennedy's.

Not sure if I had much influence on any of my kids or not but Damion did catch the love of landscaping that I grew up with. My mom had the greenest of green thumbs and could make anything grow. I grew up digging in the garden, planting and watching things grow and now that torch passes on to my son Damion and his son Lucas.

Lucas watches me carefully as I divide some lillies I dug in my garden and took to Sheridan to plant in Damion's flower beds. He would have grabbed it and put it in his mouth in a heartbeat so grannie had to be careful.

This is Damion and his son Lucas. I love their matching hats. Lucas is already by his dad's side helping with the landscape business. And no, I'm not kidding he rides in the truck with Damion and visits some of Damion's lawns that he works on or just goes to Home Depot to shop.

Lucas' cousins Jaxon and Cash thought about joining in. Jaxon loves to plant and helps me in the yard almost every week. Right now we have peas growing and he is going to make me pea soup when we have some produce. Cash doesn't care so much yet for the grass, it tickles him and he isn't so sure he even likes to touch it yet. But he will........soon he will be digging in my flower beds or maybe picking my flowers. Doesn't matter to me as long as I get to spend time with the grannies in the garden.

Up close to the two newest gardners in the family. Lucas above and Cash below.

Tree.....mendous!

[Copy_of_001[4].png]
Joining Tootsie and Fertilizer Friday today - if you want to see some awesome flowers stop by her blog and check it out. AMAZING is all that I can say. I am so envious of her greenhouse that I had to sop up the droll from my keyboard. I don't have much to flaunt but I do so enjoy my trees so I decided to show them off. Most of all I just love looking at everyone's blogs and their beautiful flowers.

I love spring, I think it is the best time for trees to strut their stuff. Sure wish those oh so pretty blooms would stick around a lot longer. My new crabapple tree is putting on a show despite the fact she is just a little thing.

My old cherry tree "Jeremy" always fills its branches with white blossoms. He is just beginning to open some of those pretty blooms. In full bloom the tree is absolutely beautiful and when he is all done blooming a light wind will make my yard look like it is snow, pretty in itself. And the smell -- wow, my back yard smells like a big perfume bottle.

I think this is a currant bush of sorts, I can't get rid of it so I just enjoy it. This little yellow beauty can really make my yard smell wonderful!

Not the best of photos but it shows the pretty little orange insides of the bloom on yet another cherry tree in the back yard.
These trees all just give me so much joy, now in their flowering glory, during the summer as it shades me while I  sitting in my lounge chair, provides not only me with its fruit for jellys but keeps the birdies little tummies full and then later their last show of golden red, oranges, browns and yellows. I wish I had acres to plant trees and enjoy all that beauty.

Take Me Out To The ........... Garden!

My little greenhouse is just bursting with color and ready to be planted in the garden but looking at the forecast I think we had better spend a little more time inside.

No, I didn't plant all of these pretty blooming flowers, just a few, the rest I bought and now we are waiting, waiting, waiting, for some warmer weather.
I like to shop early and get the plants just as they come into the store and then keep them in my little greenhouse. I have just a few things that I planted for myself as I procrastinated about getting seeds, dirt, etc.  However, whenever I am around a greenhouse I stop and shop and then bring them home for some TLC. Some I plant in large pots so they get a good start on the season.

I did plant some true blue Forget-me-nots as recommended by my blogging buddies after this post. Remember it? Not sad...just feeling blue!  I have all these beautiful almost blue flowers blooming but not any really blue, and thanks to many comments I found the true blue flower. Can't wait to see it blooming. They sure are looking good in the greenhouse.

Here they are my little blue buddies........my fingers are just itching to get them into the ground. We will be good and wait for warmer weather. I promise!

Hope everyone is enjoying the spring days! Happy Gardening All!

Tapping Through the Night! & Mosaic Monday

I have missed out on so many Mosaic Mondays, well not following, but joining in. I decided tonight to add some of my photos of my granddaughter's dance recital. She was such a dolly and just a joy to watch. For some wonderful Mosaics please stop by The Little Red House and enjoy some beautiful photography and interesting mosaics.

Emma Jean had her first dance recital Saturday night. The title for the night was Dancing Through The Movies and it was the sweetest thing to watch. Miss Emma stole the show and our hearts as she tapped, hopped and danced her way through the night. It was a six hour ride to watch a 6 minute performance but it was worth it to see her in her little tutu and tights. We were all so proud of her.

Heel - Toe..............

..........and tap, tap, tap to my right..........

........and tap, tap, tap to my left.

Heel - Toe.......

And jump!

Emma did strike a little pose for me after the show.

She was ever so tickled when it was all over, she knew right were her nana was sitting as she kept her eye on her most of the time -- well when she wasn't watching the instructor. It was the Sweetest of Nights. Good job Emma Jean!

A Beautiful Gift from a Beautiful Friend.

Hello blogging buddies, it has been some time since I posted a blog. With spring finally coming to the panhandle of Nebraska the last thing I have wanted to do is sit inside and blog. My yard has been calling my name, especially since last year with back surgery it was a little neglected. I wanted however, to share this beautiful gift that I received from one of my very best buddies. I have always wanted a tree rose but have been a little shy about the upkeep that one would take, and not really sure that it would do well in my part of the country. Everyone assures me that a little TLC and some strategic pruning is all this beauty really takes. So please have a look at my tree rose, I shall name her Twila, after my good friend. So I am joining in with Tootsie at Tootise time and Fertilizer Friday. Please stop by her site and see what wonderful things she has grown in her greenhouse.

I planted her in my little memorial garden dedicated to my mom, who passed away in 1983. This little garden is the entrance to my what will some day be my Cottage Garden Studio.

NOTE: Here is some info that I found out about the Tree Rose in my quest to learn how to take care of htis beauty. This info taken from: The Rose Magazine. Tree Roses are more properly called Rose Standards – a term believed to come from Victorian Europe when such techniques were commonly used in the rose gardens of nobles. Typically, the central cane, onto which the hybrid rose is grafted, is 32 to 36 inches long. (Miniature rose standards may be grafted onto shorter canes of about 24 inches. These are sometimes marketed as patio tree roses.) A graft is made to a rootstock at the bottom of the central cane. Another graft is made at the top of the cane to form the hybrid. The central cane (or standard) is usually supported by a stake. Pruning is also more important when growing rose standards. As you might expect, pruning is always important when changing the natural form of any plant or tree. Improperly pruning standards not only exacerbates pests and diseases, as it does with any rose, it may also create too much top and not enough bottom – thereby snapping or cracking the central cane. On some hybrids, it may be necessary to provide two or three support stakes until such time as the central cane becomes thick enough to support the weight of the grafted rose.

And speaking of trees, my little crabapple tree I bought last year for a piddly amount at a year end sale is doing it's best to add beauty to my back yard. It was late in the season when I made this purchase and my little 5' tree only cost me pennies. I wasn't sure how well she would do getting a late start and all but she is a healthy little 5'5" inch gal and doing well.

Happy Gardening All!

Day Dreamin'

Now that the weather is starting to warm up my daydreams, thoughts are going to remodeling my old gargage into my Cottage Garden Studio. I have been dreaming about this for many a year and because of my back problems have had to put it on the back burner for some time. But now, a year after back surgery, I am ready to put my back into it,  so to speak, and get to work. I have a file of photos and ideas that I have been collecting for inspiration plus some wonderful finds to decorate with when I am done. My husband calls it junk but I say "One man's junk is one woman's treasures"!! Ok, the saying isn't exactly like that but in my house it pertains to my hubby and myself.

I just love the scroll work on the eve's of this little studio I found on the BH&G website. And the bright splash of red really catches my eye. How about that cute little wicker chair sitting by the door along with a braided rug. I could just see myself sitting out there enjoying my garden. I missed a chance to buy a set of white wicker furniture, two chairs, loveseat, and small table for a little of nothing on our local swap shop. Boy was I bummed!

And the architectual windows just make this little structure absolutely one of my favorites. I also like the french doors on the front. I do have have a pair of those hiding in my 'junk' pile to put on the end of my studio. I love the boxwood surrounding the plants with the birdbath as a focal point. And the old picket fence..I have some of that stored too.

Put I also like the doors on this shed. I think cutting them in half would just be adorable. I love pale yellow in the garden, it just blends in so well. Take a look at that bright yellow water pump. I have one of those too, my hubby painted it red but I'm likin' that yellow.

And how about a shovel for a doorknob? Wouldn't that just add to the whimsy?
Oh - I just can't wait to get started!
Happy Spring Days to all my blogging buddies! May your daydreams come true!

Ballerinas, Buck-a-roos, Boy Scouts and Basketball - my weekend.

Sounds  like a vitamin kick - the 4 B's - instead it was the Best weekend.
My oldest grannie, Taylor, played basketball all weekend in a 'Hoop Shoot' - I got to watch 2 of his 7 games. I also worked 12 hours this weekend helping 921 Boy and Girl Scouts plant trees in the burned area at Fort. Rob. And then my little Adrianne had a dance recital in Chadron. It was the cutest little thing. On Sunday, after working, we went horse back riding with Jaxon, Cash, Jeremy & Steve. I even got a little riding time in myself, not as much as Jaxon, however my new boots got a good breaking in from walking Nugget and Jax around. So here's my week in photos.

The Ballerinas

Shelby Blundel (daughter of a friend of mine) looked more like an angel than a ballerina.

My little granddaughter Adrianne (center) did such a good job, it was her first year of dance.

Above and below is my great niece Kamden, she is a novice at dance as this is her second year in dance.

Taking a Bow!

Round and Round we go!

And now the Buck-a-roos!

Jaxon and Cash on Nugget

Cowboy Jaxon!

We almost had a little rodeo of our own when Nugget got a little scared and took a leap back knocking Jaxon into the saddle horn. He hung on and I hung on and we made it back to the corral! WHEW!
Boy Scouts!

Scouts planted 10,000 seedlings on the fire stricken hills to help "Mother Nature" out just a little bit.
Basketball!

Grandson Taylor got in a lot of playing time with 35 teams entered into the local Hoop Shoot.
